A driver is facing charges after crashing into a hydro pole early this morning on Carey Road.
On Friday, April 8, 2022, at 7:45 a.m. officers responded to report that a single vehicle had crashed into a hydro pole on Carey Road at Baker Street. The driver, who did not appear injured, initially stayed on scene to talk with witnesses but then fled before police arrived.
An attending Integrated Canine Section officer was able to locate the driver several blocks away, who was then arrested for failing to remain at the scene of an accident. As a precaution, he was transported to the hospital, however, remarkably did not sustain any significant injuries. Officers back at the scene observed substances believed to be drugs, drug paraphernalia and bear spray inside the vehicle. Charges will be considered for these offences after the drugs are properly examined. The driver, a 61-year-old man, was later released on an undertaking to appear in court next month.
“The collision was so powerful that it snapped and dislodged the base of the hydro pole. This then caused Carey Road to be closed to traffic for most of the day while BC Hydro crews worked to make the area safe again,” said Cst. Markus Anastasiades.
