Four Youth Arrested with Replica Firearm

On August 12, 2024, just before 4:00 pm, Saanich Police responded to the area of McKenzie Ave. and Borden St. for the report of a group of youth in possession of a firearm.

The group was located at a bus stop at the corner of Quadra St. and McKenzie Ave. and were safely detained. A search of their possessions located a replica firearm and a switch blade knife resulting in the arrest of four minors.

The youth were later released with conditions.

We anticipate forwarding charges to Crown in relation to the possession of weapons.

All calls involving firearms create an elevated risk to the public and necessitate a priority response from police. Officers continue to encounter replica firearms regularly in the course of duty. Replicas pose a serious safety risk to the public, those that carry them, and officers responding to a call. Police are trained to treat all firearms as real until proven otherwise.
