On April 28, 2025, just before 9pm, Saanich Police received a report of a tractor trailer driving erratically southbound on the Pat Bay highway.
Officers from our Traffic Safety Unit quickly located the vehicle travelling eastbound on McKenzie Avenue and conducted a traffic stop. Due to a strong smell of alcohol emanating from the male driver, the officers administered a roadside breath test which resulted in a reading of FAIL. A second breath test using a different screening device also resulted in a reading of FAIL.
The driver’s license was seized, and he was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP). Given that the vehicle was transporting a commercial shipment, the vehicle was first towed to its destination so that the trailer could be delivered before the tractor unit was impounded for 30-days.
The Saanich Police Department are committed to keeping our roads safe and remind all drivers that impaired driving will not be tolerated.
