Motorcycle Rider Caught Lane Splitting Issued Ticket

On September 2, 2025, the Saanich Police Department received a report of a motorcycle dangerously weaving through traffic and at one point splitting two lanes of traffic as it travelled eastbound on McKenzie Avenue near Saanich Road.

The rider’s actions were caught on a dashcam, and the footage was provided to our Traffic Safety Unit. Using this footage, officers were able to identify the motorcycle’s owner who admitted to being the rider that day. He was subsequently issued a $196.00 ticket under the Motor Vehicle Act for driving without consideration.

Lane splitting and lane filtering are both dangerous and illegal in British Columbia. Riding between moving or stationary vehicles puts motorcycle riders and other road users at serious risk of injury. Riders are expected to follow the same rules as all other vehicles that use our roadways.
