Saanich Police Department Detectives are investigating another afternoon robbery that occurred at the Van City Credit Union, in the 1500 block of Cedar Hill Cross Road, on Friday, April 11, just before 6 pm.
At the time of the robbery there were no customers inside the bank and several staff members witnessed the suspect enter and make demands for cash by passing a note to a teller.
The suspect male was wearing a dark coloured hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses, gray and black cargo style pants, and appeared to possibly have facial acne and dry skin.
The male was provided with an undisclosed amount of cash and left the bank, walking through an adjacent parking lot in the direction of Stamboul Street.
This incident comes just three weeks after another robbery at this same location that occurred on Friday, March 21. In that occurrence, the male suspect entered the bank at approximately 4:30 pm, made a demand by way of a note, and left on foot in a similar direction.
The suspect description in the first incident was a Caucasian male, approximately 5’8″ tall, slender build, and between 25 and 35 years old. The suspect was believed to be unshaven and appeared to have red or brown coloured facial hair at the time of the incident. The male was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt with the hood up and drawstring pulled tight, and blue jeans.
Based on several similarities between these two events, investigators believe that there is a strong likelihood that the two events are related and that there is a strong possibility that the same suspect is responsible for both incidents.
Investigators are currently following up on several leads with the hope of positively identifying the suspect and gathering enough evidence to make an arrest for these events.
