Saanich Police Detectives are still actively investigating a shooting that took place on Friday, July 24, that left a 31 year old Saanich man with a non life-threatening gunshot wound.
Investigators would like to update the public with further information relating to this investigation. It would appear that this incident was not a random act, and that it appears to be a targeted event.
“While there would be some inherent risk to the public, given the nature of this type of incident, our investigators do not believe that there is any immediate threat to the public at this time” Sgt Steve Eassie said.
It has been determined that the incident likely took place within a residence in the 3600 block of Quadra Street at some time during the daylight hours on Friday, July 24th. The victim of the gunshot wound did not report the incident to police.
Police were notified of the incident after medical attention was sought by the victim at a local hospital later that same evening.
The 31 year old victim underwent surgery to remove a bullet from a wound in his lower body. The male has since been released from hospital and is recovering.
Investigators are continuing to gather information from those who witnessed these events. A search warrant has been executed at the residence where this event took place.
Investigators have determined that there is no apparent direct correlation between this shooting incident and a sexual assualt investigation that took place in the same block of Quadra Street within the week prior to the shooting.
Anyone that may have information that may help with the investigation are asked to to come forward with that information, either by contacting Saanich Police at 250-475-4321, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
