On Sunday August 7, 2016 at around 9:40 PM a lone male entered the Subway in the 4100 block of Wilkinson Rd. The suspect, who had been in the store earlier, walked up to the store employee and produced a handgun. The suspect demanded money and, after receiving an undisclosed amount of money, fled the store. The suspect was last seen running towards Interurban Rd.
Saanich Police Investigators requested the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect when surveillance footage was released on August 10, 2016.
On August 12, 2016 Saanich Police Major Crimes Investigators successfully identified the suspect involved in this robbery. Saanich Police and Officer’s from the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant in the 900 block of Jasmine Ave. Once the warrant was executed Officer’s safely arrested a 21 year old Saanich man who is known to Police. Police will be recommending a charge of one count of robbery with a firearm and looking into other potential charges.
“Any crime involving a firearm creates a significant danger to the community as a whole.” A/Sgt. Jereme Leslie said. “We’re pleased to announce that we have arrested the robbery suspect and feel that our community is now safer.”
