The Saanich Police Board (SPB) is proud to announce that Deputy Chief Scott Green has been promoted to become the 17th Chief Constable in the Saanich Police Department’s 113-year history of keeping Saanich safe.
Scott Green will commence his duties on August 1, 2019, when SPD, Chief Constable, Robert Downie retires after completing thirty-seven years of service with the Saanich Police Department.
Following months of extensive research, consultations and interviews that began in November 2018 and led by SPB Human Resources Chair, Mary Collins, the Board is confident that its process has resulted in a decision that will be celebrated and supported by all stakeholders.
Board Chair, Mayor Fred Haynes, said that he was impressed with the hard work and dedication to the selection process exhibited by all members of the Board, as it reached this unanimous decision. “We know that the promotion of Scott Green will be met with enthusiasm by the women and men who serve in the Saanich Police Department as well as by a wide spectrum of stakeholders across the community” said Mayor Haynes.
Scott Green began his career in policing with SPD thirty-one years ago, after earning a B.A. at the University of Victoria (UVic). Since that time, he has advanced through the ranks gaining experience in all aspects of policing operations and management, becoming Deputy Chief in 2014. Scott was also invested by the Governor General of Canada, as a member, into the The Order of Merit of the Police Forces in 2018. Today, Scott holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Master’s Certificate in Project Management, both from UVic.
“I’m honoured to be promoted to the rank of Chief Constable and look forward to continuing to serve Saanich in this new role” said Scott Green. “I’m also pleased to announce that the Saanich Police Board has accepted my recommendation to promote Acting Deputy Chief Gary Schenk to Deputy Chief beginning August 1st.”
