Saanich Police are investigating after witnesses observed a red SUV crash into the storefront of KuKu’s Restaurant on Burnside Rd West near Harriet Street.
The incident occurred on December 4, 2019 around 8:45 in the morning. The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The vehicle was believed to be heading southbound on Burnside Road West, when it suddenly veered across the road, onto the sidewalk, crashed into the front of the restaurant and then came to rest in the parking lot of 7-11.
Fortunately, the restaurant was closed and nobody was inside. Also, no pedestrians or other vehicles were struck. Saanich Municipal crews were on scene to investigate if the structure of the building was compromised and we are asking for the public to avoid the area until both investigations are complete.
At this point we are treating this as a medical incident, as neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor and the driver is cooperating fully.
