A witness alerted police to a motorcycle that had crashed in the 3800 block of Finnerty Road after it had failed to stop for police earlier in the morning.
On July 22, 2020, at 6:30 a.m. Saanich Police received a 911 call about a domestic dispute in the 1800 block of Harvard Place. As police arrived on scene they saw a man on a motorcycle leaving the area that they believed was involved in the dispute. An officer tried to conduct a traffic stop with the motorcycle, however, it accelerated away at a high-rate of speed and failed to stop for a stop sign. The officer was able to obtain the licence plate and pulled over. It was just minutes after that a witness approached the officer and explained that the motorcycle had crashed in the wooded trails off Finnerty Road.
Additional officers arrived on scene to help and were able to locate and arrest the 36-year-old man, who was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries sustained from the crash. He is currently in custody at the Saanich Police Department.
The man did not possess a driver’s licence and the motorcycle licence plate had been forged. Recommended charges include Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Obstruct a Peace Officer, Flight from Police, Forgery, and additional Motor Vehicle Act offences. He is also facing charges related to conditions imposed from courts outside of British Columbia.
“It appears that this individual fled from police because he did not have a licence, was riding an uninsured motorcycle, and had court conditions imposed that prevented him from driving period. His actions were completely reckless and void of care for anyone that may have been using the roads this morning.”
