On May 1, 2021, at approximately 8:30 pm a motorcyclist was westbound on McKenzie Avenue when it struck a vehicle turning left at the intersection at Saanich Road. The rider was thrown from the motorcycle and remarkably suffered non-life-threatening injuries. They were taken to the hospital for further treatment and observation.
Collision Analysts and our Traffic Safety Unit continue to investigate the cause of this collision.
“As May is the start of Motorcycle Awareness Month, this incident comes as a reminder to all motorists that many more motorcycles are now on our roads compared to previous months. Motorcyclists are reminded to take proactive measures to ensure they are seen on the road, avoid being in the blind spots of other drivers, and to watch their speed, especially at intersections. All other motorists are reminded that motorcycles are often closer than they appear, and it is sometimes difficult to judge the speed they are moving, so be prepared to yield.”
