At about 7:45 this morning, the Saanich Police were contacted by a victim who had been confronted at his home by a man with a knife. The incident occurred approximately one hour before in the 800 block of McKenzie ave. The victim had managed to leave the residence and contact police from his work.
Multiple Saanich Police officers were dispatched to the residence along with detectives and members of the Street Crime Unit. Given the risk, observation of the residence was conducted from a short distance away by arriving officers.
At about 8am, a male matching the suspect description left the residence in a cab. The cab was stopped a short distance away and the male arrested.
As it turns out, the male suspect knocked on the suite door and when the victim answered it, he produced a knife in a threatening manner and held it to him. The two are not known to each other and the suspect does not reside at the residence. Alcohol and or drugs on the part of the suspect are being considered as possible factors.
A 21 year old Esquimalt resident remains in police custody. Charges being considered include assault with a weapon, threats, theft and possession of a small amount of cocaine.
There were no injuries in this incident.
