On April 6, 2025, at approximately 9pm, the Saanich Police Department responded to the report of a collision in the 3200 block of Richmond Rd. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a single vehicle had left the road and collided with a telephone pole and a tree.
The driver, who exited the vehicle on their own, appeared to have minor injuries and was transported to hospital.
While at the hospital, our officer suspected that the driver was intoxicated and lawfully demanded they provide a sample to an Alcohol Screening Device. The driver refused, resulting in their arrest. They were later released with a future court date and face criminal charges related to impaired driving.
Additionally, the driver is now subject to an Administrative Driving Prohibition (ADP) and prohibited from driving for 90 days.

“For the driver to have only received minor injuries in such a significant crash is somewhat of a miracle. Our investigation shows they were travelling at a high rate of speed and were likely impaired. They are lucky to be alive and that they didn’t seriously injure or kill someone else.” Staff Sergeant Doug Cripps, SPD Traffic Safety Unit
