On September 14, 2012 at approximately 6:24 am the Saanich Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery at a bus stop located at 880 Vernon Avenue.
The female victim reported that a male, unknown to her, had approached her while she waited for the bus at that location at approximately 6:13 am. The male suspect produced a weapon and demanded the woman’s wallet. She then stated to him that she had no wallet and pushed her assailant away.
After pushing him away she proceeded to run away from her assailant, falling in the process. The woman dropped her cell phone and as she reached for it the male produced the weapon again and demanded the woman’s wallet as well as the cell phone. The woman reiterated that she had no wallet and the suspect proceeded to pick up the cell phone and flee the scene on a bike.
The male was last seen entering the apartment complex parking lot located at 880 Vernon Avenue. The woman then attempted to flag down passing motorists, none stopped. She then ran to a nearby restaurant where she called police.
Police attended and were unable to locate anyone matching the suspect’s description which is as follows:
Caucasian male, approximately 35 years of age, average build, small dark eyes, stubble and a broad nose. The suspect wore a tan coloured trench coat, dark cargo pants, dark shoes and was riding a dark coloured mountain bike.
The Saanich Police Major Crimes Investigation unit has been assigned to the investigation as well as patrol and bike constables. The police are seeking the public’s assistance with anyone living in the area or commuting, between 6:00 and 6:30 am September 14, 2012, who may have witnessed the incident or the suspect before or after the robbery.
