A 51 year old Saanich man is in police custody at the hospital following a spectacular car crash at 2 a.m. on Wednesday, February 2nd
A red 2004 Jaguar sports car was travelling north on Tillicum Road approaching the T-intersection with Carey Road. The Jaguar travelled straight through the intersection, clipped a fence and a parked car then crashed into the front of a home in the 3900 block of Carey Road.
The entire front end of the Jaguar ended up within the bedroom of the rented basement suite. A young couple were asleep in the bed, which was pushed a couple of feet by the impact. They were not injured but they were very shaken up.
The upstairs residents and homeowners are a middle-aged couple and they were also uninjured, but were very shaken up from the forceful impact of the crash.
The driver of the Jaguar fled from the scene on foot. He was later located and arrested by police a few blocks away. The man had been drinking and was suffering from head injuries. He was taken by ambulance to Victoria General Hospital and his injuries are non-life threatening.
Saanich Police are conducting a criminal investigation of impaired driving and failing to remain at the scene.
