MAN ARRESTED WITH WEAPONS DURING ROAD RAGE INCIDENT

On September 28, 2022, at 9:20 PM, it was reported that two males were arguing in a commercial parking lot in the 3700 Block of Shelbourne Street.  The caller stated that one male was brandishing a knife and bear spray and that the situation needed police to intervene. The weapons were not used against anyone during the incident and no physical injuries were reported.

Officers attended and arrested a 50-year-old Saanich man for Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose pursuant to Section 88 (1) of the Criminal Code. Police later learned that the confrontation started in the 4400 block of Shelbourne Street when the two males were driving in separate vehicles. During that time, there appeared to be allegations of erratic driving behaviour by both men with the event ending in both males turning into the same parking lot.

The male who brandished the weapons was later released on conditions to have no contact with the victim, and not to possess prohibited or restricted weapons, including knives or bear spray.  He will also appear in court in November 2022.

“We urge all drivers and residents not to confront others if they have driving concerns,” said D/Sgt. Damian Kowalewich. “We have a dedicated Traffic Safety Unit who are prepared to investigate traffic matters and who are ready to assist when needed.”
