On Friday April 28, 2023 at approximately 9 p.m., Saanich Police officers responded to a call for service, which led to a traffic stop with a motorist in the 4100 block of Patricia Bay Highway (Highway #17) in Saanich.
During the interaction with police, the driver of the vehicle was shot. He was taken into custody and transported to hospital with serious injuries.
Police closed the highway in both directions between McKenzie Avenue and Quadra Street until approximately 6 a.m. Saturday morning. Motorists in the immediate area during the incident were directed to places of shelter by police until it was deemed safe for them to leave.
