A small herd of sheep fell victim to a bear attack Wednesday afternoon.
On Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at approximately 1 pm, a passerby saw a black bear attack a herd of sheep in the 4000 block of Prospect Lake Road. The passerby was able to scare the bear away into the nearby forested area. Once he contacted the owner of the farm, it was learned that one of the sheep had been injured.
Saanich Police are reminding those that have livestock in the area to be mindful. This was the first reported bear sighting in this area this month. BC Conservation Officer Services were notified of the incident.
