On May 29, 2025, just before 3am, a Saanich Police Patrol officer spotted a vehicle speeding excessively in the 4000 block of the Pat Bay Highway. The officer received multiple laser readings that showed the vehicle was travelling at 174 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.
The vehicle did not stop for the officer and instead continued to speed southbound down the highway before turning off at Vernon Avenue. Our officer did not pursue the vehicle but did circulate through the Carey Road area and located the vehicle parked on a dead-end side street. The driver was ordered out of the vehicle and taken into custody.
Our officer had reason to suspect the driver was impaired and ordered he submit to a screening device which he failed. He was issued an Administrative Driving Prohibition, which prohibits him from driving for 90-days and the vehicle he was driving was impounded for 30-days.
He was also issued multiple traffic tickets which included one for failing to display an “N”, and one for speeding excessively.
We anticipate recommending to Crown that the driver also be charged criminally with flight from a police officer and impaired operation of a motor vehicle.
The driver was later released from custody.
