Suspects Arrested after Firearm Discharged

On August 26th, just before 10:30 p.m., Saanich Police received a report of a firearm being discharged near the intersection of Shelbourne Street and Torquay Drive. The caller reported that, after a brief interaction with individuals in a vehicle, one of the occupants produced a handgun and fired a shot into the air before leaving the area.

Officers responded immediately and while speaking to witnesses at the scene the suspect vehicle returned. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver and passengers were taken into custody.

The Integrated Canine Service was called in to assist with a search of the surrounding area. During that search a loaded handgun was located not far from where the vehicle was stopped.

Saanich Police’s Major Crime Unit is now leading the investigation. Detectives believe this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing risk to the public.

We are asking for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or was driving in the area at the time and have dashcam footage, to please contact [email protected].
