On May 27, 2026, at approximately 9:00 p.m., the Saanich Police Department received a report of a stolen vehicle from a residence in the 600 block of Jolly Place.
A short time later, officers located the vehicle in the parking lot of the Cedar Hill Recreation Centre and attempted to stop it. The driver fled onto the Cedar Hill Golf Course, contacting two police vehicles in the process. Officers did not pursue and instead established containment around the golf course.
With maintaining containment, an officer observed a fire on the golf course. Upon investigating, they located the stolen vehicle burning in the middle of a fairway. The Integrated Canine Service was requested and, shortly after beginning a track, the suspect was located in a nearby bush and arrested.
Saanich Fire attended and extinguished the fire.
The driver remains in custody pending a court appearance. Investigators anticipate recommending charges related to the theft and burning of the vehicle as well as the damage to Cedar Hill Golf Course and fleeing from police.
