The Saanich Police Department will deploy a temporary camera at the Gorge Canada Day Picnic along the Gorge Waterway in support of our operations to help ensure public safety during the event. The camera will be clearly visible and mounted on our Command Vehicle, operating in a public space in accordance with provincial and federal privacy laws. It will be removed at the conclusion of the event.
“The use of a CCTV camera will help us monitor Canada Day celebrations responsibly and support a timely response if needed,” said Deputy Chief Damian Kowalewich. “Our focus is on creating a safe, family-friendly environment where the community can come together and celebrate.”
