Already prohibited driver gets IRP

Yesterday evening, just before 8pm, 911 callers reported a car off the road into Gorge park. The driver was prohibited and had been drinking.

At about 7:45pm, 911 callers advised that a vehicle had gone off the roadway at Gorge and Tillicum. The driver was seen walking away from the scene by witnesses. Multiple officers were dispatched to the scene.

A male matching the driver’s description was located a few blocks away by a canine officer. He was suspected to be intoxicated and was subsequently taken into custody.

Responding officers found a gray 1995 Toyota had gone off the roadway into the Gorge park just prior to the bridge.

The investigation at the scene revealed that the driver had no permission to use the car. The driver, a 42yr old Saanich resident, was found to be a prohibited driver already through to Feb. 2012. A roadside breath test revealed a fail reading, which led to a 90 day immediate roadside prohibition and the vehicle being seized.

The driver has a history of driving with no license, with four other convictions.
