Texting and driving don’t mix

Overnight Saturday night, a young man was lucky to avoid injuries in an accident.

At about 1:30am, Sunday morning, April 22nd, report of an accident was received at the Saanich Police Communications Centre. The accident had occurred when a south bound vehicle struck two park cars at the side of Cedar Hill Cross road at Corners place

When officer arrived they found that the 1999 Pontiac Sunfire had gone off road, struck two vehicles belonging to area residents and sustained significant damage. Both parked vehicles sustained over $1000 damage.

The driver took responsibility with investigating officers, and said:

“I’m not gonna lie, I was texting,” stated the 22 year old Saanich driver.

This was confirmed when he showed his phone to the investigating officer and it was clear from the time stamp that texting was the cause of this accident.

The driver was issued a ticket for emailing or texting while driving, contrary to the Motor Vehicle Act which carries a penalty of $167.00.
