Our local Crime Stoppers program received two international awards for its outstanding work in 2021.
Each year, Crime Stoppers International recognizes a number of individuals, programs, activities and campaigns from around the world for excellence and for their contribution to the achievement of the Crime Stoppers International vision – to mobilize the world to report information on crime and criminals, anonymously.
Traditionally, winners are publicly announced at an Awards Presentation Ceremony, held in conjunction with the Crime Stoppers International Annual Conference in front of an international audience of their peers and distinguished guests.
In November 2022 award presentations were made online on the Crime Stoppers International Facebook page and YouTube channel to coincide with the CSI Board holding its first in-person meeting since the pandemic was declared.
We are very pleased to announce that Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers and the great work of their two Program Coordinators have once again been recognized by Crime Stoppers International. Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers was a finalist in several categories and was named the winner of two awards for 2022.
The first is the Print Media Award – Serving a Population Between 300,000-1,000,000. This award was presented for the weekly Crime of the Week feature in the Times Colonist.
The second award is the Productivity Award: Property Recovered – Serving a Population Between 300,000-1,000,000. This award was presented in recognition of Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers remarkable 634% increase in total property recovered in 2021 over the previous year.
These latest awards continue a long history of recognition from Crime Stoppers International for the excellence of the Greater Victoria program.
